How to Reach: Delhi – Naggar – Stelling – Chiklani – Chandrakhani Pass – Nagruni - Malana
Highlights: This beautiful moderate but short trek offers excellent views of snow covered mountains, beautiful open valleys and coniferous forests with the Bara Bangal range towering high in the west, Pir Panjal in the north and Parvati in the east at some stretches.

Chandrakhaniand Malana Trek

Day 1: Naggar to Stelling (2150m 5-6 hours)

  • We will meet at Naggar and straight away commence our trek
  • The day’s walk is through the blue Pine and Deodar, Walnut, Golden Oak and Wild Cherry
  • From here there is a climb of about little more than an hour will take us to Rumsu village
  • From Rumsu there is prominent path which leads us to the pastures of Stelling
  • Overnight in the tents at Stelling

Day 2: Stelling to Chiklani (3450m 5-6 hours)
  • Today your hiking initially is extremely beautiful on pasture lands of Stelling and Ghalkrari
  • From here the Birch trees can be seen replacing the Oak and conifers
  • Later a gradual climb will take you to the base camp Chiklani
  • Overnight stay in tents

Day 3: Chiklani to Nagruni (3650m 5-7 hours)
  • The entire trek offers excellent views of snow covered mountains and beautiful open valleys. This day we climb to the Dhalakda Pathar and from here continue gradual climb on the ridge to Chandrakhani pass
  • It is indeed an awesome sight from the pass as the Bara Bangal range is towering high in the west, Pir Panjal in the north and Parvati in the east
  • From the pass the descend is steeper towards Nagruni in comparison to the ascent to the pass.
  • With cautious foot steps we reach Nagruni our campsite for the night stay.
  • Overnight stay in tents

Day 4: Nagruni Thach to Malana (2600m 5-6 hours)
  • The trail from Nagruni continues to descend steep in times to reach Malana
  • The walk is enjoyable and awesome through the conifer forest
  • Arrive in Malana village and stay in camps for overnight stay
  • Overnight stay in the tents at Malana

Day 5: Malana to Kullu
  • This morning we continue to descend on steep but well-defined path towards Jari
  • Initially the path descends through the fields and later enters the forest dominated by Deodar trees
  • Continue to descend down to Manala Nallah. From here crossing the gorge section we reach to the site of Malana Power project
  • We continue to trek to Jari. From Jari we board the awaiting vehicle and drive to Kullu via Maniraran
  • Arrive in Kullu to end the trip

An identification card (like Driving License, Voters ID card, Passport etc), along with a photocopy, Passport Size Photos, a Medical Certificate and Disclaimer Certificate.

All mentioned DOCUMENTS are MANDATORY, without which you won’t be allowed to trek.

Fitness Requirement:

Physical preparation is mandatory for this trek. Regular Jogging, Stretching Exercises, Cardio Exercises.

DOs and Don’ts:

  • A strict NO to your Denims – they are not suitable for treks, besides it adds weight.
  • NO to Snacks, Colas, Alcohol and Personal Food – Don’t overweight yourself with them.
  • NO to any Disposable Plastic Bottles, plastic wrapped/packaged items & Non Bio Degradable material.
  • While at the trek enjoy the view. Do not litter and leave the place in the same condition for other trekkers and next generation coming after you to enjoy.
  • Strict NO to touching or handling of any of the Skeletal remains that you may come across.
  • Do weigh your Gears post packing. It should not exceed the range of 8-9 kg – preferably on the lighter side.
  • Travel light and carry what is essential. For example, toothpaste should be bought in small size (that can last you 10 days).The list given here are exactly what you need and nothing more.
  • We carry High Altitude Sleeping Bags with us hence please do not carry yours. We would also be carrying tents and other equipment required for such treks.

Some Common advice about Clothing:

To protect you from cold, dressing in layers is the ‘Catch’. Two T-shirts worn one over the other is warmer than a T-shirt that is thick. 3 T-shirts worn one over the other is as good as a full sweater. This is just a suggestion. If you are prone to cold carry an extra sweater.

Not suitable for: Heart Patient, paralyzed Patient, pregnant women, Asthmatics or any other medical conditions that limits person from participating in adventure sports.
